Yosemite Valley

Dear Readers,

Last year in October, I went to Yosemite Valley to climb Half Dome, but we could not achieve it because we got dumped on by snow.  It was really hard to do, but we had a very big adventure.  We saw lots of little waterfalls and lots of big waterfalls such as Nevada Falls, Bridalveil Falls, Yosemite Falls and Vernal Falls. We saw many animals like the mule deer that can be found in my backyard and squirrels. Even a raccoon came into our tent. The raccoon came in the tent because it was pouring rain that night. When my dad, my friend, her dad, and I woke up we looked outside and there were puddles as large as ponds in front of our campsite.

After we settled into our campsite, my friend, Mckenzie and I got bored so we went bike riding around the whole area. It was really fun to ride through the huge puddles. It was like riding a horse through a lake. We once even had to take out the trash and tug it to the trash cans on our bikes.

While we were hiking up the trail head we saw the Merced River, but you could not swim in it because there is a strong current and at the end there is a waterfall. When we were up near the river we ate lunch. As we took off our back packs it felt like I was floating because the heaviness of it is flying away off our backs.

The day we got to the base of sub-dome was the first snowfall of the year, so we were not able to make it to the top because the granite was too slippery. It was really pretty and a bummer at the same time. It was so cold my toes felt like they were burning. The Merced River that ran along the campground was so beautiful because the trees looked like trees covered in sugar and the river to me seemed like a river of honey.

  1. Hi Ellie,
I really enjoyed this post, your description of the snow covered trees and the river flowing through the woods was excellent. There is something very magical about being deep in the woods, far away from the developed world, and the witnessing the first snow fall of the year. Do you remember how quiet it was with that fresh snow covering the sounds of the woods like a heavy blanket? One of my favorite parts of that adventure was the four of us laying in our cozy tent telling ghost stories late into the night. That was a great trip and I can't wait to go back and do it again next month.
    Keep up the good work.
    Love,
    Dad

      Dear Dad,

Thanks for commenting on this post. Yes, I do remember how quiet it was. The only noises I heard was someone making a fire, the crackling of the fire, and you putting up the tent. Do you remember seeing the deer that was just standing around?

My favorite part was when you told the story that took place in Yosemite Valley. The funniest time was when I took that tree and sprung it up in the air and all the snow fell on me and down my outfit. I remember two more things when you taught Mcenzie and I when ever there is an earthquake and rocks are falling get close to the rock and remember when we were walking on that rock that was slippery near Nevada Falls. Do you remember any of those events?

  2. Dear Ellie,

Those photos were beautiful! My favorite was the Nevada Falls. It was so big.

I've never been camping, but I would love to go camping at the same place that you went.

    Sincerely,
    Sarah

  3. Dear Ellie,

What a beautiful place to camp! I have always wanted to go to Yosemite, but surprisingly I have never been there in my whole life! I would be kind of scared if I saw a moose running around the city! To answer some of your questions, one of my achievement is learning how to ride a two wheeler bike, getting better and better at gymnastics, and getting better at math!

I have a haiku for you!

    Snow is falling fast
    Cold weather is beginning
    Animals hiding

    Can you write a haiku?

    Sasha♥

  4. Dear Ellie,

Yes, I have been on a camping trip on the beach with my Girl Scout troop a few weeks ago.
I have many achievements in my life. For example, in softball I hope to become a world champion player, I also want to be a world famous Chef, and I want to be a Rock star.
Some things that I have achieved are I earn good grades in school and I study with my singing coach how to sing many different songs.
    Your friend,
    Alyssa
